Upgrade of Virto-Cuccolini Systems for Metal Powder Classification

Since 2015, Virto-Cuccolini has been producing advanced systems for the classification of metal powders used in 3D printing. The X-Line solution, our patented multi-frequency sieving system, has been selected by numerous manufacturers globally for its high efficiency in fine powder separation.

In 2023, in response to process needs and customer requirements, Virto-Cuccolini developed complete systems that further enhance the quality of the metal powder production screening process. These include:

  • A vibrating feeder system, designed to receive the product directly from batch bins, transfers it to the sieve at a continuous rate, preventing mesh breakage caused by uncontrolled material inflow. The system is supported by a custom-made support structure.
  • An inert atmosphere control system throughout the entire product pathway, equipped with a sensor to monitor the oxygen level. In the event of insufficient inert gas flow in the working area, an alarm is triggered to ensure process safety.
  • Virto-Cuccolini can supply powder management accessories such as containers (bins) of various capacities based on the specific process requirements. These containers are internally mirror-polished and equipped with manual or automatic valves to control the bin’s internal inertization.
  • The entire system is controlled via a PLC panel for efficient process management and can include our preventive maintenance software.

Currently, the most in-demand applications are the classification of metal powders in inert environments and the classification of reactive powders in an inert atmosphere. Moreover, systems delivered in recent years can be upgraded with these additional elements upon request.
